Mitzvah Day - helping others

2 Dec 2015

The Emanuel Synagogue Social Justice Group came together in November to organise a day of making gift packs and presents for Lou's Place and The Plunkett Street Community Project.

The event took place on Mitzvah Day, a day when the Jewish community and other communities and people meet up to take part in activities to help others. It brings together enthusiastic volunteers from all walks of life to those who need support.

Mitzvah Day was born out of the belief that we can all make a positive difference to our world by taking action - together.

The Synagogue was a hive of activity with workstations set up around the hall. People made gift bags, beautiful presents and put together care packs of essential items.

Our CEO, Deborah Banks, spoke to the group and was overwhelmed by their generosity in creating and donating goods, and fundraising.

After the presentation Deborah was introduced to three medical specialists who expressed interest in contributing support to the families involved in The Plunkett Street Community Project.
