Mark your diaries and come along on Wednesday, 25 November to Martin Place for the NSW Vigil Collective 2026 campaign “Unite Against Violence: No More Empty Shoes”.
Lou’s Places is again chairing this important event, held on the first day of the United Nations’ “16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence”, to honour and remember the women and children who we have lost to domestic and family violence (DFV) over the last 12 months.
And the NSW Vigil Collective and event have been growing. This year, we have 49 frontline services and 3 community partners standing together. The centrepiece of our campaign is a one-day installation in Martin Place featuring pairs of shoes representing women killed by DFV in Australia. Each pair is accompanied by a victim’s name and a flower, creating a space for solemn reflection and remembrance. There is also more to this vigil than just the one day. As a collective we are using our voices to support the campaign “Don’t Subpoena Our Support: Keep Counselling Notes Confidential” working with journalist Nina Funnel who is in partnership with Unions NSW, RASARA and Marque Lawyers. In addition, we have very exciting news. Tim Minchin, musician, actor, composer and all-around incredible performer has agreed to be our guest artist on the day! We are hoping that this high-profile advocacy will enable us to reach a broader audience.
